The Ford Family

As you might imagine, the Ford family consists of the descendants of company founder Henry Ford. Though their current equity hovers just around 2%, the Ford family retains operational control of the company thanks to a special class of stock that was established early in the company’s history and retained when it made its first public offering in 1958.

This special stock is known as Class B shares, and the Ford family owns all of them. Collectively, the Class B shares grant their owners entitlement to elect 40% of the Ford board of directors.
