While the family of dealerships under the Ernie Von Schledorn is certainly well-known for our many new models from such automakers such as Chevy, Ford and Volkswagen, we’re similarly popular for our large and ever-changing inventory of used and certified pre-owned vehicles as well. For many buyers, ranging from Waukesha to Fond du Lac to Sheboygan, WI, the purchase of a used model simply makes more sense from a financial standpoint, and that’s why we’re pleased to offer financing on our terrific used inventory. Of course, buying a used car isn’t without its benefits.
The Benefits of Buying a Used Car
It’s easier to do your research. When you’re looking at a brand-new car, you’re also bound to be looking at reviews and descriptions that are largely based on a first impression. With cars that are a few years old, however, you’ll easily find reviews that take the long view, and might provide a more rounded understanding of the car you’re thinking of purchasing. Message boards, CARFAX pages, etc. — all of these and more will be available to you.
A used car depreciates in value more slowly. It’s often said that a new car loses its value the minute that it’s driven off the lot. While this isn’t really true, it is based on an undeniable fact: new cars depreciate more quickly than older ones, partially because there’s just more value to lose. That said, if you’re planning to sell or trade your new purchase in the near future, you might be happy to see that the value hasn’t dipped as much as you might have thought.

You can find older styles and features that you like, but that aren’t offered anymore. When a model undergoes a redesign, many of its style cues and features go by the wayside. Many times, the new model is nicer, but this isn’t always the case. Some buyers are attracted to body styles and features that are no longer available in a new model, and buying used allows them to cater their purchase to their tastes.
Used cars generally come with fewer fees. For many buyers, there may be fees that come along with new cars, and these sometimes come as a surprise. Some dealerships will tack on processing or even advertising fees, and these drive up the bottom line on the car being bought. However, used cars generally will only have standard tax and licensing fees that are added to the price of the sale.
As you can see, there are multiple benefits to buying a used car, depending on what your needs and lifestyle dictate.
