What Is Vehicle-To-Home V2H Technology and How Does It Work?

Understanding Home Charging Options

Charging your Cadillac EV at home is simple, with two charging levels. You can charge immediately, schedule a delayed charge, or customize settings based on your daily driving needs. The power comes from the electrical grid through alternating current (AC), available in Level 1 or Level 2 charging. Your charging speed depends on which level you choose.

Level 1 Charging

This is the most basic option and works with a standard 120V three-prong outlet. It provides a slower charge and is best used when other charging options aren’t available.

Level 2 Charging

This faster method requires a 240V outlet through a portable charge cord or a professionally installed home wall charger. Level 2 charging delivers charge rates between 3.6 and 19.2 kW, depending on your vehicle and equipment. Standard charging rates include 7.7 kW, 11.5 kW, and 19.2 kW. Your vehicle will automatically adjust to the maximum speed your charger and power source can handle.

How to Charge Your Cadillac EV at Home?

Set Your Charging Preferences

Use your vehicle’s center display to select “Charge Now” for immediate charging or “Charge Later” to schedule a charging time. You can also set a target charge level and enable cabin preconditioning.

Plug in Your Vehicle

  • Park and locate the charging port.
  • Press the rear edge of the port door to open it. If your vehicle has a motorized port door, press the emblem or indicator to open it.
  • Insert the charge cord into the vehicle’s inlet. For Level 1, use the standard 3-prong plug. For Level 2, connect the charging cable to a professionally installed charging station or a NEMA 14-50 outlet.

Monitor Charging

You can use your vehicle’s in-car Charging app or the mobile app to check battery status, track energy usage, and adjust settings as needed.

Unplug After Charging

Stop charging using the in-vehicle app or mobile app. Press the latch release button and unplug the charge cord from the vehicle’s inlet. If your car has an automatic charge port door, it will close when you shift out of PARK.

What Are the Benefits of Home Charging?

Charging at home makes owning a Cadillac EV even more enjoyable. You save time by avoiding frequent stops at public chargers. Home charging is often more cost-effective, especially when using off-peak electricity hours. With a Level 2 charger, you can wake up to a fully charged battery every morning.
