Find a safe placeÂ
When you have a flat tire, make sure you have somewhere to go to replace it. Make sure it is out of the road, such as a driveway or the shoulder of a highway. Turn your hazards on if you are on a busy street or highway to let people know where you are on the road.Â
Find the spare tireÂ
The spare tire, tire iron, and jack should be in the back of your vehicle. Consult your owner’s manual for more details. Once you find these parts, you can start to replace the tire.Â
Raise the carÂ
In order to change the tire on your car, you need to elevate it. Use the jack on the underside of the vehicle to raise it. Make sure it is under the flat frame under the vehicle and not the edge. Lift the vehicle up near the tire that needs to be replaced. It should be about six inches off the ground.Â
Unscrew the lug nutsÂ
Take off the hub cap and unscrew the lug nuts on the tire. You may need to use the tire iron to do this. Once you have all of the lug nuts out, you can take the flat tire off the wheel. Â
Replace tireÂ
Place the spare tire on the wheel and screw the lug nuts back into place with your hands. Make sure they are securely fastened. Â
Lower the VehicleÂ
Lower the vehicle with the jack and make sure the lug nuts are secure. Place the hub cap back on and place the gear back where it belongs. You can’t drive on a spare tire for long, so see a technician to help put a new one that will last.Â
