A spray-in bed liner for the bed of your pickup can be difficult to remove. After all, these gizmos are made to be durable and long-lasting. However, a bed liner can become damaged in various ways that warrant repair. How can one repair a spray-in bed liner without removing and replacing it entirely?
One way to repair a spray-in bed liner is to install another liner directly on top of the current one. This should fix any cosmetic issues with the liner and eliminate the need to fully refinish the bed. A new coating of the bed should bond to the previous, as long as it’s the same kind. Before doing this, check to make sure the type of bed liner you have and are using works to bond to itself.
To repair:
- Cut out the damaged parts of the bedliner and thoroughly clean/rough-up the newly-exposed areas with 60-grit sandpaper.
- After this, clean each exposed area with Xyline.
- Then, apply a new coating of the same brand of spray-in bed liner. Again, the substance should bond to itself as long as it’s the same kind of liner and is formulated with this self-bonding feature.
What issues can occur with a spray-in bed liner?
Some spray-in bed liners will develop issues as time goes on. These can include:
- Staining: Spots of water or grease and oil can lead to staining. To avoid this, clean your bed liner often and promptly remove trapped dirt and debris.
- Fading: Sunlight, and the UV radiation embedded within, can cause bed liners to fade. To prevent this, consider getting a bed liner that’s UV-resistant.
- Cracks, Peeling and Bubbles: These pesky imperfections may be covered under warranty if you bought the truck new.
Can I remove my spray-in bed liner?
It’s not recommend that one fully remove their spray-in bed liner on their own. This complex job is better left to the professionals.
