Yet, while our inventory (which can be conveniently accessed below) of ‘Vettes is well known, there are many facts about this iconic model that are not. So, for your reading pleasure, here are five interesting facts about the Chevy Corvette.
Five Interesting Facts about the Chevy Corvette
Where Did the Corvette Get its Name?
There are many cars that have names that seem to come from nowhere, or were pulled out of some focus-grouped hat. Not so with the Corvette, which took its name from a small, fast class of warships. Chevy’s chief photographer suggested the name, and the name it replaced, “Opal,” became an iconic moniker in its own right.
The ‘Vette’s First Emblem was Illegal
We all have come to know and love the Corvette’s logo, which features two crossed flags. However, the original Corvette logo featured an American flag, which is illegal to use for advertising purposes. They then replaced it with a Fleur-De-Lis, which it has intermittently retained to the this day.

The First Corvette Only Offered Two Options
While today’s vehicles offer all of the bells and whistles you could possibly hope to have, this wasn’t always the case. The 1953 Corvette came with only two options: add a heater for $91, and an AM radio can be added for $145. It used to be so simple, no?
The Corvette can Really Haul — in Reverse
The Guinness Book of World Records certainly has benchmarks for nearly everything, but what about top speed while driving in reverse? In 2014, the Corvette Stingray was clocked at a terrifying 53 mph driving in reverse, which we certainly don’t suggest that you try at home.
The Fastest Production Corvette Ever — Came Out in 1968
This doesn’t really seem possible, does it? Don’t we just keep going faster and faster? As it turns out, the 1968 LT-2 Corvette was a truly unprecedented behemoth, zipping from zero to sixty in just 2.8 seconds, and completing a quarter-mile in 10.86 seconds. While top speeds have been exceeded in the years since, these times have never been matched.
With history such as this, it only becomes more surprising that the model manages to be better than ever. We’ve included the link above to check out our expansive Corvette inventory, and we encourage you to visit us at EVS Auto Group today to test drive one for yourself!
