Performance & Towing Specs
The 2018 Ford Explorer is offered in five trim levels, the Explorer, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum.  Under the hood of the Explorer and XLT trim levels there is a standard 3.5L V6 engine that produces 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. When the 3.5L V6 works with standard Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) it can tow a maximum of 5,000 pounds when equipped with the Class III Trailer Towing Package and a 3.39 axle ratio. With All-Wheel Drive (AWD), the Class III Trailer Towing Package and a 3.65 axle ratio the 3.5L V6 can also tow up to 5,000 pounds. Without being equipped with the Class III Towing Package the 3.5L V6 engine can tow only 2,000 pounds in both AWD and FWD.
